Is Magic Seaweed owned by Surfline? ›

Magicseaweed has joined the Surfline family. This means that not only will you have access to your favorite magicseaweed forecasting tech and team, but you'll also gain the features Surfline has pioneered over the past four decades.

Global surf forecasting firm Magic Seaweed (MSW) has announced it is losing its name as it merges with California-based Surfline. MSW, which was created in Kingsbridge, south Devon in 2002, was bought by Surfline in 2017.

As of today, Magicseaweed — a surf forecasting platform cherished by many around the world — has passed on. Opening the App or visiting the website now pushes you to instead consult MSW's overlords at Surfline.

MagicSeaweed, My favourite App for weather forecasting and just as importantly, wave and swell prediction charts, has now sold out to a US surf App called Surfline.

Magicseaweed has officially joined Surfline, bringing together the world's best surf forecasting websites. As part of this, we've now brought over a bunch of features on Surfline that will look and feel similar to MSW.

Surfline memberships automatically renew and you will be charged the selected membership price (exclusive of taxes) annually or monthly depending on the plan selected. How do you read a surf Report in Magicseaweed? ›

Wave height on Magicseaweed tells you the what height wave to expect at the beach. Swell Period tells you how powerful the waves will be and affects the size. Generally surfable conditions are 9 seconds + (for the UK). Look for no wind or light wind on the forecast that's preferably offshore!

Swell is energy that has been transferred into the sea by wind. The longer and stronger the wind blows (like a hurricane) the more energy that is transferred and so larger the swell. This energy then propagates from where it is created out into the ocean, much like ripples in a pond.
